TONY'S CHOCOLONELY

WHAT'S COOLING THE PLANET?
Ethically-compelling story about how Dutch journalist and TV watchdog presenter, Teun van de Keuken, sets out on a mission to investigate illegal slavery in cocoa farms. Slavery is still very common in West Africa, where most of the world’s cocoa originates from. In a publicity stunt, after stuffing himself with a pile of chocolate bars, Teun hands himself in to the Dutch authorities as a chocolate criminal, being complicit in slavery!! Teun then sets up his own company to produce chocolate and Tony’s Chocolonely is born! Why Tony’s? Teun translates to Tony in English!

OK, back to the product, as you might expect, Tony's uses Fairtrade-sourced cocoa chocolate. The outer packaging is made from a mixture of recycled and virgin FSC-certified paper and the inner aluminium foil has been made as thin as possible. Both the inner and outer packaging can easily be separated for ‘absolutely no effort’ recycling! This might sound trivial, but it’s actually massive when recycling products♻️!

WHAT'S NOT?

Hard to find, but we did find this on their website:

"Our vision is 100% slave-free chocolate. Not just our chocolate, but all chocolate worldwide. For 13 years we’ve been striving to make chocolate 100% slave free. Along the way we have been supported, encouraged, challenged and eaten by many. We’ve learned a lot: especially how difficult it is to change the industry. After 14 years we’re not there yet. Our chocolate is still not 100% slave free, and slave-free chocolate is far from the norm.

We can’t do it alone. Alone we make slave-free chocolate, but only together will we make all chocolate 100% slave free. We’re now building a movement of friends who want to join us. We’re actively looking for partners to follow our model and we want you to join us. The more people who choose slave-free chocolate and share our story, the sooner slave free becomes the norm in chocolate. It's up to you!"

Remember guys, climate change, slavery, inequality and justice are explicably linked!!

ANYTHING TO ADD?

Don’t bite into the chocolate after putting it in the freezer, you'll have no bloody teeth left😀!
